Southwestern Ontario's premier traditional Irish dance school is delighted to be joining together with Studio Dance Pointe in St. Thomas .
The Lancaster School is Southwestern Ontario's oldest established, CERTIFIED, Irish dance school. For the last 15 years, Kim Lancaster and Erin Lancaster-McFadden have offered correct, concise instruction to children and adults at both the recreational and competitive level.
Kim is a certified teacher with An Coimisuin Le Rince Gaelacha in Dublin,Ireland as well as its Canadian and North American counterparts. Both Kim and Erin were Canadian, National and World Champion solo and team dancers over their competitive career and as teachers have produced Canadian and European champions.
Classes will be offered for children ages 3-18 as well as a separate class for adults.
Class will be split to allow for the greatest benefit to your child allowing a concentration on age appropriate activity and learning expectations.
The schedule will be as follows
BEGINNERS
Dancers at this level will be introduced to exercises, conditioning, placement, music and rhythm. By the end of Session 1 , dancers will be competent in the Reel, Jig, Hop jig and depending on individual learning ability, the Slip jig. Dancers who continue on to Session 2 will be ready to begin Hardshoe training and will also be ready for shows and performances.
INTERMEDIATE
Only students that have completed 1 session with the Lancaster School will be advanced into the intermediate class unless advised by the instructors.
ADVANCED/ADULT
Dancers in this class will focus on all the rudimentary introductions to Irish dance but will continue at a different, more student driven pace. The Adult class is less of a competitive level with the understanding of lower impact steps and more one on one training , as we all get a little slower as we get older.
***** If a student beginning with the Lancaster School has any prior experience in Irish Dance, an assessment will be made by the instructors to ensure the student is placed in the correct class. ******
Attire for class is shorts, t-shirt, Studio Dance Pointe appropriate dance wear as well as comfortable light shoes, i.e. jazz shoe, light running shoe. If you wish to purchase correct Irish dance shoes prior to starting class, please contact us and we will give you all pertinent information. A water/ juice bottle is highly recommended as the class is extremely busy and breaks will be short and quick.
